<p>Halston Halston: The name itself has evoked visions of ultimate elegance and languid luxury for nearly half a century. His classically cut designs and refined feminine approach to every quality piece he touched made him truly an architect of American design. Born Roy Halston Frowick, Halston moved from his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa to Chicago to design women’s hats and by 1957 had opened up his first milliner shop. Less than two years later, Halston began working for the famed New York-based milliner Lily Dache, earning him a co-designer title and opening the door to notoriety amongst the New York fashion society. Within a year, he had become a household name by creating the infamous pillbox hat for Jacqueline Kennedy and eventually launched his first ready-to-wear collection. By the late 1970’s, Halston had become synonymous with American style: a modern, simplistic yet glamorous look that encompassed everything from a knitted eveningwear to flowing caftans to perfume bottles designed by his close friend, Elsa Peretti. Newsweek had named him “the premier fashion designer of all America” and Esquire posed the question, “Will Halston Take Over the World?” He counted personalities such as Liza Minelli, Andy Warhol, Lauren Bacall, and Bianca Jagger as close friends and clients. Halston passed away in 1990 and after changing ownership and designers several times, the brand laid dormant for many years. In March of 2007, Tamara Mellon, founder and president of Jimmy Choo, recognized an outstanding opportunity and brought it to life with the help of a group of investors led by Hilco Consumer Capital, and supported by Harvey Weinstein of The Weinstein Company and CEO , most recently chief commercial officer of Jimmy Choo and former president of Earl Jeans. The new Halston pays homage to the iconic designer and his aesthetic basis of impeccable sensuality and grace with an effortless, modern interpretation. The first collection for Fall 2008 was revealed during New York Fashion Week, February 2008, at the renowned Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea.
